1st Call for Papers – The ‘Three Universities’ Annual Archaeology Conference
Using Theory in southern African Archaeology
University of Pretoria
1st November 2014
The ‘Three Universities’ Archaeology Conference will bring together staff and students from UNISA, University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of Pretoria, to present and discuss various themes relating to the use of theory in southern African archaeology. This meeting aims to provide a forum for broad engagement with applications of theory to the discipline, as well as offering a space to discuss the current state of theoretical discourse and teaching in the region. This reflexive approach is in response to a perceived need for greater theoretical engagement amongst local practitioners, and the development of appropriate teaching and learning of theory. The format of the conference will therefore include a series of research papers by staff and students, as well as a roundtable discussion on the state of theory and its teaching in South Africa.
Interested speakers should submit a title and short abstract (c150 words) to Dr Ndukuyakhe Ndlovu (firstname.lastname@example.org). In particular, students are strongly encouraged to submit paper abstracts. Topics must focus on theoretical aspects of research.
Due date for abstracts: 21 September 2014
